~ By Reneé Raider, One Senior Place Receptionist ~

I have been a receptionist here at One Senior Place for a little over a year now and I can tell you that no two days have ever been the same!  That’s just one of the things I love about my job!  I meet all kinds of people in person – we have an average of 1,500 seniors, family members, caregivers, and professionals come through our door each month – plus there are the people I speak with over the telephone. Most visitors and callers are quite pleasant and I enjoy talking to them and doing what I can to serve their needs. I help them and I often learn something new, too.

One of the first people I helped was a sweet lady that called inquiring about love bugs.  She said “I don’t know if you can help me with this sort of thing, but I’ve always called you guys when I have questions.” I had just moved to Florida, so I didn’t know much about love bugs, just that they were a harmless nuisance, so I was curious myself.  I looked up love bugs on the web and relayed the information about when and where we should expect to see them around town (typically for 3-5 weeks in May and September, more info here).  Love bugs aren’t dangerous, but that it is a good idea to wash them off your car sooner rather than later !  The caller thanked me very much for the information.  She explained that the purpose of her investigation was because she had a grandson that wanted to come to visit her, he was 6 years old and extremely disliked bugs, especially flying ones. What a smart, sweet, Granny to check that out for her little darling!

That was one example where I was able to help and also learn something new.  At One Senior Place, we are always very pleased that people think of us as their resource for all types of questions.  Our goal is to provide the advice, information, care and services that seniors and their family need … all in one place!
