With Medicare open enrollment right around the corner, over 100 seniors attended Senior Insurance Day: The Affordable Care Act & More on October 3, at One Senior Place to get as much information as they could on how Obamacare will affect Medicare recipients.

The speakers educated senior consumers on how the Affordable Care Act would affect their benefits immediately, what changes they may see in the future, and how they can prepare financially for their future health needs.

Teresa Risner, with LTC Advisors, offered proactive strategies to prevent the toll  that health care costs can take on retirement income.  Wes Fischer, with The Health Insurance Store/Medicare Plan Options discussed the impact that health care reform will have on seniors’ Medicare benefits.

Seniors will see a close in the “donut hole” by 2020, free preventative care and screenings, but may also face cuts in federal payments to Medicare advantage plans, reduction in benefits like vision and Silver Sneakers, and doctors forced out of the network due to reduced federal payments.  Consumers are advised to speak with their individual plans for a benefit check-up and make sure they are getting the most from their health care dollars.
