Volunteer 1Numerous benefits can be reaped when seniors volunteer or go back to work. Even after retirement, you can find purpose and meaning in your life by passing on your knowledge and skill sets, and also by encouraging and mentoring people younger or less experienced.

In order to help seniors find rewarding volunteer and job opportunities, VITAS Healthcare and One Senior Place Greater Orlando are hosting a Senior Job & Volunteer Fair on Thursday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this special Open House event, seniors will be able to speak with local employers and organizations that are all seeking capable and willing individuals looking for new and exciting opportunities.

Some of the organizations that will be present include Heart of Orlando United Way, AARP Florida, American Cancer Society, Easter Seals, Goodwill, Meals on Wheels, Pet Alliance, Legal Aide Society, Neighbors Network, RSVP of Seminole County Public Schools, Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Senior Partner In-Home Care, VITAS Paw Pals, Volunteers for Community Impact, and Career Source Central Florida.

Volunteer & Job FairThese kinds of opportunities often give the elderly the outlet they need to continue to be useful in their communities and offer them a chance to focus on their dreams and try something they have never done before. It also allows them to widen their scope of things to do and encourages socialization and meaningful interaction with others.

“Volunteering has always been highly recommended as a great activity for retirees and seniors,” says Emily Stowers, Aging Services Manager at One Senior Place Greater Orlando. “By finding the right opportunity, they can continue to be engaged in the community and also reap the health benefits of remaining active both mentally and physically.”

Join us at One Senior Place Greater Orlando on Thursday, April 14, and find the volunteer or job opportunity of a lifetime!
