The Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra will present a winter concert for the community, Holiday Magic, with a performance by all three of its musical groups Sunday, December 15, at 3:30 PM at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, 5625 Holy Trinity Drive in Suntree, 32940.
The 100+ SCSYO members are divided into three performing groups, to accommodate various ages and experience levels. Holiday Magic will feature the Academy Orchestra’s beginning string players under the direction of Rebecca Simons, intermediate players of the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Samantha Felber, and advanced Philharmonic Orchestra students under the direction of Maestro Mark Nelson. The Academy Orchestra will perform a new work entitled, “Wenceslas,” a musical depiction of Wenceslas the “Good King.” It’s an exciting work for young players that explores the traditional song in an updated setting. The Symphony Orchestra players will take a trip to the movies with holiday favorites “Somewhere in My Memory” from Home Alone, and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” from the classic animated feature, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The advanced players of the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the Tchaikovsky holiday classic, Nutcracker Suite, in its entirety, with featured solo performances by many of the students players.
Holiday Magic is a free concert with no ticket required. An outreach of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra for youth aged eight to 18 years rehearses weekly in preparation for performances of classical symphonic masterworks.
