At 35 years of age, the Community Band of Brevard is just getting started. The all-volunteer group under the direction of band leader Marion Scott has been playing favorites with Space Coast audiences since 1985. They will celebrate three and a half decades of music-making with a special 35th Anniversary Concert on Sunday, March 8 at Merritt Island High School Auditorium, 100 Mustang Way (off North Courtenay Parkway, 32953).  The 3:00 PM concert by the popular group is comprised of works chosen from various performances over the years; a mixture of classical pieces, marches, a selection fit for “The Greatest Generation” and even a musical number made famous by “The King,” Elvis Presley.  Composer Richard Rodgers is well represented on the program with selections from Victory at Sea and The Sound of Music. The audience can expect to hear the Light Cavalry Overture by F. Von Suppe, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol and many, many more. The 35th Anniversary Concert is free with no ticket required and no reserve seating.
