Central Florida’s own Adam Brakel will be the first featured performer of the 2019-20 Advent Lutheran Church Concert Series in Suntree on Sunday, August 25 at 3:00 PM. The American-made A.E. Schlueter pipe organ of 36 ranks and 2,196 pipes will swell under the proficient touch of the accomplished concert organist during a recital of Thrills & Trills at 7550 North Wickham Road, 32940. The eclectic program will include works for organ by Camille Saint-Saëns, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and other prominent composers, in addition to Brakel’s own arrangement of “Carolina Shout” and “Stars and Stripes” by John Philip Sousa. A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he received further training at the Juilliard School in New York City. His recital career was launched with an American Guild of Organists scholarship. Performing in venues from coast to coast, Brakel is the recipient of multiple honors for organ performance and the winner of numerous prestigious national and international organ competitions. He has been hailed as “an absolute organ prodigy” by National Public Radio and “one of the most talented organists in the world” by the Chicago Tribune. Mr. Brakel is currently the Director of Music for St. James Cathedral and the Catholic Diocese of Orlando, Florida.
