As we age, we all tend to pay attention to our aches and pains of the body, but a key component of our health actually stems from the mouth.  By simply staying in tune to oral health, seniors will enjoy their food while maintaining a great smile.

Common in older adults are cavities and decay on the root surfaces of the teeth.  Brushing, flossing and seeing your dentist on a regular basis in order to maintain dental health is imperative.  If sensitivity begins in the mouth it may be due to the gums naturally receding over time and the enamel is no longer protecting the tooth.  Anti-sensitivity toothpaste can help to reduce any minor pain due to cold or hot sensations on the teeth.

Dry mouth, which can be caused by various medications or medical disorders, is common among seniors.  This can be treated and will help teeth and gums to continue to be healthy and functional.

Of course one of the biggest issues for older adults is gum disease.  Maintaining a healthy diet, not smoking, proper dental hygiene, low stress and regular checkups to the dentist will reduce your chances of periodontal disease.
