Michelle WaldowIn much the same way that people are able to shop for Medicare Advantage plans once a year during the Annual Election Period, there is an annual enrollment period for people that need to sign up for coverage under the Affordable Care Act. That time frame is coming to a close on February 15, 2015. The good news is that there is still time to shop for plans and get a simple estimate on the monthly premium costs for individuals and families. The plans, which are offered by private insurance companies, provide full medical coverage and the premium costs are based on the number of people in the household and the estimated annual income for 2015. Many people are surprised that they may be eligible to receive assistance paying the monthly premiums and that they may also receive help with the deductible and out of pocket amounts through government subsidies. Healthcare.gov offers an easy to use “see plans and prices” tool to determine subsidy eligibility, premium cost and gives benefit information on the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum level plans. The site also has links to find providers and research prescription coverage. Enrollments submitted by February 15, 2015 will be effective on March 01, 2015.

There are a number of offices here at one Senior Place that can help with plan review, estimated premium and subsidy amounts, applications and getting people enrolled before the deadline. There is no cost to speak with a benefits consultant and the process is quick and easy. The Affordable Care Act plans are available for people through age 64 or those not eligible for Medicare coverage. If you’re moving into Medicare eligibility at 65, you may be interested in attending one of the free educational seminars, Michelle Waldow, Licensed Benefit Consultant with Medicare Plan Options will be hosting at One Senior Place, “Timeline to Turning 65″ on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. or “The Medicare Process” on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.
