A Fitting Tribute to Veterans

One Senior Place Greater Orlando is hosting Every Day is Veterans Day, an annual event that recognizes our country’s veterans.

Sgt Harry Shakes and Don KramerIn order to celebrate and honor the service of U.S. veterans, One Senior Place Greater Orlando, along with Honor Flight Central Florida and VITAS Healthcare, will host Every Day is Veterans Day on Friday, September 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its offices in Altamonte Springs.

Free and open to the public, the event has become a tradition at One Senior Place, and this year, numerous veterans and military organizations will be represented. Every Day is Veterans Day will feature a color guard, musical tribute, celebrity emcee, refreshments and door prizes.

“We feel there’s nothing more important than honoring and remembering the service of our veterans,” said Don Kramer, CEO of One Senior Place. “As providers of advice and services to seniors, caregivers and those approaching retirement, we constantly come into contact with them and understand the critical role they play as mentors to our younger generations and individuals whose sacrifices have helped preserve our freedoms.”

One of the event’s hosts, Honor Flight, is a non-profit organization dedicated to  providing veterans with honor and closure by transporting them to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials created to honor their service and sacrifice.

Top priority is given to WWII veterans and those who may be terminally ill.

The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates 640 WWII veterans die every day, so the time to express thanks to these brave men and women is running out. Honor Flight works to ensure as many as possible get to visit these memorials.

“Veterans have given so much, and it’s important we show them their efforts are not forgotten,” said Donald Menzel, Honor Flight Central Florida marketing director. “Every Day is Veterans Day is a great example of how a community should honor veterans, and we’re proud to be hosting this event with One Senior Place and VITAS Healthcare.”

Highlighting this year’s event will be a patriotic musical salute performed by the CINQ Brass Quintet and Legacy! Choral Ensemble from Central Florida Community Arts.

For the fourth year, the multiple-award-winning Dorie Miller Memorial Post 331 of Orlando will perform Presentation of Colors. Winners of several color guard competitions, Post 331 will also be presented with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition from U.S. Congressman Bill Posey during the event.

Lauren Rowe, best known as the award-winning news anchor for WKMG-TV Local 6 Orlando, will act as celebrity emcee. Rowe is currently president of Rowe Communications and Director of Communications for Orlando Sanford International Airport.

This year, the Vietnam Unforgettable Memories Foundation (VUMF), a group of Vietnamese-American women whose mission is to thank all Vietnam-era veterans for defending their country against communist aggression, will present memorial pins to all Vietnam veterans in attendance.

For those who have passed, the VUMF will present memorial pins to surviving spouses or Gold Star Mothers.

“This is always such a touching and special day for everyone involved, and we’re looking forward to this year’s event more than ever before,” said Kramer. “It just keeps growing, which says a lot about this community and its support of veterans.”

Most of those who will be attending the event served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, but all veterans are welcome. And while Every Day is Veterans Day is all about the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, it is free and open to the public.

“Everyone is welcome,” stressed Kramer. “We want everyone to join us in honoring and celebrating the selfless service of those who have given so much.”

While an RSVP is not required, attendees are encouraged to call 407-949-6733 so that organizers can fully accommodate the expected large turnout.
