WFTV-Channel 9 Anchor Martie Salt discusses senior readiness for remaining at home

martie-salt-wftv-channel-9-a(Viera, FL)  October 26, 2016 –  One Senior Place kicks off a 5-part Aging in Place series, with a special appearance by WFTV-Channel 9 anchor, Martie Salt on Thursday, November 10 at 5:30 PM at the Viera marketplace for senior resources at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road.  Sponsored by Whittaker-Cooper Financial Group and One Senior Place University, the event will present an overview of requirements for Aging in Place and preview the remaining segments of the series. The term “Aging in Place” refers to the life strategy preferred by many seniors, who wish to remain in their homes independently, comfortably and safely throughout retirement — at age 50, 60, 70, 80 and beyond.  WFTV’s Martie Salt will present a 20-minute television news special she produced on the subject and take questions from the audience about the journey she undertook with her own parents.  Salt’s look at preparation for aging has garnered two Emmy Award nominations for the report which first aired earlier this year.  Attendees to Aging in Place will also receive a free soft-bound resource and planning guide created in collaboration with the Center for Innovative Care in Aging at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.  Refreshments and a prize drawing will be provided by Whittaker-Cooper Financial Group, which maintains a satellite office at One Senior Place in Viera.  Attendees are encouraged to call (321) 751-6771 and RSVP to the event to reserve seating and free resource materials.  For more information about One Senior Place, The Experts in Aging, visit their website at www.OneSeniorPlace.com or call (321) 751-6771.

One Senior Place Director, Kathi Ridner, thinks the first Aging in Place event with Martie Salt will be an eye-opener for many.

“Living independently at home is something nearly everyone wants to do, but most people have not considered the steps they should be taking now to ensure they can make it happen,” said Ridner.  “Physical health, safety issues, home layout and family support are just a few of the challenges to be met.  A health event or other crisis could drive a change in housing without warning — and without budget.  This seminar series is going to tackle one or more of the factors necessary for successful Aging in Place during each session.”

Aging in Place is just one of the dozens of events presented annually by One Senior Place in Viera.  One Senior Place is a marketplace for resources and provider of information, advice, care and on-site services for seniors and their families.  To learn more about One Senior Place, The Experts in Aging, visit www.OneSeniorPlace.com or call 321-751-6771.
