Free event features seminar on technology assistance for dementia care
(VIERA, FL) October 28, 2019 – One Senior Place, the Viera marketplace for senior resources, will celebrate caregivers with an event that features the first in a new series of seminars in partnership with the University of Central Florida’s Technology and Aging Laboratory on Friday, November 8 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road, 32940. Technology & Dementia: Coming Solutions will be presented by McKnight Doctoral Fellow, Fernando Montalvo. The popular presenter will highlight the technological advances that are helping to make living with dementia more manageable for both patient and caregiver. Since 2014, Fernando Montalvo has conducted research as a member of UCF’s Technology and Aging Lab. He is currently focused on the use of social robotics to assist older populations. The afternoon of caregiver support and interaction will continue with two bonus presentations: The Cost of Caregiving, and Caregiver Burnout. Attendees will be treated to a retro cool snack in the afternoon, when onsite staff from Whittaker Cooper Financial Group scoop out free root beer floats. Director Barbara Fradkin wants the first Caregiver Appreciation Day at One Senior Place to be all about ways to recognize, support and help the caregiver.
“More and more of our clients are becoming caregivers,” said Fradkin. “Many don’t know what to expect and will need new tools to help them succeed in this role. They sacrifice so much. We are here to help them with the ongoing challenge.”

ABOUT FERNANDO MONTALVO —Fernando Montalvo B.S., B.A. is a McKnight Doctoral Fellow in the University of Central Florida’s Human Factors and Cognitive Psychology Program. Fernando holds two bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Anthropology from UCF, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Since 2014, Montalvo has conducted research in loneliness, human-robot interaction, and aging as a member of UCF’s Technology and Aging Lab.
