Guardianship Services - What You Should Know...
Guardianships are established for many different reasons. For the senior population, Guardianship is pursued when a person lacks the ability to care for him or herself in some aspect. Guardianship is a costly process that requires the involvement of attorneys and the court system and considered to be the path of last resort. However, when no other option is available, guardianship is the process to help ensure the safety and well-being of an individual who is not able to care for themselves.
Guardianship Qualifications
Any resident of the state who is not under any legal disability or the power of another and is 18 years of age or older is qualified to act as guardian of a ward. There are additional qualifications for a guardian which are outlined in Section 744.309 of the Florida Statutes. (A ward is the person over whom or over whose property a guardian is appointed to.)
