A one-day event billed as “Every Day is Veterans Day” will honor veterans and give them and their families an opportunity to learn about services available to them.

Vitas Innovative Hospice Care and One Senior Place teamed up with other organizations to hold the event Friday at Brennity at Melbourne. The other groups will include organizations and companies that provide services of interest to veterans.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Brennity is an independent- and assisted-living facility located at 7300 Watersong Lane in Viera.

“They can expect to encounter a lot of organizations that are there to provide services and support for veterans and their families,” said Kathi Ridner, director of One Senior Place.

Among the organizations present will be the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, AVET Project, Honor Flight, Florida Department of Veterans Affairs and others.

Participants will have an opportunity to talk to representatives from the different organizations. The event will include a bugler, color guards, and the Melbourne Pipe and Drum Corps. There will be door prizes and refreshments.

The keynote speaker is syndicated columnist and author Norris Burkes, whose columns on spirituality appear in FLORIDA TODAY.

Burkes, who often uses humor to make a serious point, will share stories of his experience as a pastor and Air National Guard chaplain.

“He’s going to share personal stories that are going to resonate with veterans and their families,” Ridner said.

Greggory Overton, veterans liaison with Vitas, said the event is to recognize area veterans.

“Just to thank them and to let them know that there are organizations and corporations that are there to support them,” he said. “There is going to be a little bit of everything.”
