Congressman John L. Mica(Altamonte Springs, FL) - Congressman John L. Mica will address a Veteran-filled audience at the Every Day Is Veterans Day event at 715 Douglas Avenue in Altamonte Springs on Saturday, September 13, 2014. The Congressman will recognize Veterans, present a brief legislative update, and then introduce the event’s keynote Speaker, Brigadier General Wilma Vaught, USAF, Retired. General Vaught’s presentation is titled: “Called to Serve: A History of Women in the Military”. Co-sponsored by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care and One Senior Place, numerous veterans and military organizations will be represented at the event, which will also include a color guard, music, refreshments, door prizes and information for veterans.

Congressman John L. Mica has represented the seventh district of Florida for 20 years. During his time in Congress, the Congressman has focused on transportation, veterans issues and government waste.

Congressman Mica was instrumental in the creation of the Lake Nona VA Medical Complex, as his father passed away waiting for care in a VA Hospital, and remains one of the top watchdogs in ensuring the complex is complete. Recently, Congressman Mica worked with the Veterans Administration, including staging a sit-in in their Washington offices, to ensure the Lake Baldwin VA Clinic would remain open and serving veterans in Central Florida.

Congressman Mica is the only congressman from Florida to chair a major committee in the House of Representatives, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is currently the chairman of the House Committee on Government Operations, allowing him to investigate any part of the Federal government.
