*SPECIAL EVENT* “Every Day Is Veterans Day” on September 30th from 3-6pm

An Exclusive Q & A with Don Kramer, Founder and CEO of One Senior Place

OSP_EDIVDflyer2017-F2_NO MARGIN LINES_tinyHow has the event grown since its inception five years ago?

DK: Initially, we hosted the Every Day is Veterans Day at One Senior Place. The response was overwhelming, and we had to scramble a bit to squeeze nearly 200 people in. This year, we expect over 800 attendees, a full house at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts.

Are there any new additions to the event this year?

DK: Actually, it’s pretty much ALL new this year. For each of the first four years, the event revolved around a celebrity Keynote Speaker, and they were all fantastic. This year, we decided to change things up and do a big, red-white-and-blue, star-spangled patriotic concert. We’ll have a symphony orchestra, a choral ensemble, guest soloists, and a bagpipe and drum band…  some of Brevard’s best musicians performing America’s greatest patriotic music.

Also new this year, we’re honored that the Posting of Colors ceremony will be performed by the multiple-award-winning American Legion Dorie Miller Memorial Post 331 of Orlando Color Guard. And – NEWS FLASH! – we just learned that a Congressional Certificate of Recognition from United Stated Congressman Bill Posey will be presented to the Post 331 Color Guard at the event!

Which veteran and military organizations are going to be attending with information for the public?

DK: Every year, we invite key agencies, non-profits and service organizations focused on veterans to have a table with representatives and information on the services they offer. So far, we have commitments from Melbourne Combat Vet Center, Space Coast Honor Flight, Volunteers of America Florida Veterans Village of Cocoa, and Aging Matters in Brevard just to name a few. We’ll also be giving away copies of the One Senior Place “Veterans Resource Guide,” where we do our best to list all Brevard County veterans resources that we can find.

What do you think people look forward to the most about attending this concert?

DK: Our country is in the middle of one of the most turbulent periods in recent memory, and my sense is that people are feeling unsettled and even discouraged. Our hope is that this concert will cut through all of that. Regardless of our politics, regardless of age, regardless of what color we are or where our parents came from, we all love our country. I think this will be a tremendous opportunity for our community to come together, honor our great country, thank our veterans, and just feel good about being an American.

What does it mean to One Senior Place to honor and recognize veterans for their services through this patriotic event?

DK: We’ve done literally hundreds of events since we opened in 2006, but “Every Day is Veterans Day” is always our favorite. It’s a joy to do it, but it’s more than that; it’s a privilege and an honor. We owe literally everything to our veterans, and this is our way to say, “Thank you for your service!”
